FAQ
Is this trip for me?
We will be away from civilisation for the best part of the trip and you will need a reasonable level of fitness and agility to negotiate both the terrain and the landing. The Halton is warm and comfortable but will roll (as all boats do) so you should have a reasonable tolerance to seasickness. The aim is to explore as many of the islands as possible and to ring a few birds: the trip is not primarily a ringing trip as previous expeditions to Sule Skerry have been. Adrian and Dave will be on hand to answer any bird questions whilst Angus and myself will endevour to give a sensible answer to anything else!
How will we get ashore?
The Halton carries an inflatable powered by a 40hp outboard to run back and fore. (see boat page)
Mobile phones?
We will be beyond the reach of a signal for most of the time so this pesky annoyance can be forgotten about for a week! (The boat will be still be in VHF radio range with the coastguard.)
What do I need to bring?
A good set of waterproofs and stout boots: the usual outdoor clobber that you would normally take on a bird trip. Good camera, binoculars etc. Towel. Sharp eyes and good sense of humour!
What is provided?
The trip is fully catered (you will need to let us know beforehand of any particular dietry requirements) so you will not need to bring any food. All bedding, including pillows and duvets are provided.
If you have any questions, please just drop us a line and we will be more than happy to help.
